Arcadio Gil

Civil Engineer, MSc in Economics, PDG by IESE, API, and ASM (Accredited Shopping Center Manager). Arcadio Gil has dedicated nearly 35 years to Shopping Centres , in the fields of development, investment, management or Commercialization.

He began his career at the end of the 1970s in Madrid 2 La Vaguada, where, after 4 years working in its development and construction, was in charge of the centre for its first 9 years. Later he created the company Laese, one of the leading shopping centre services companies in Spain in the 1990s, where he was involved in up to 30 shopping and leisure centres in Spain and Portugal. Since the fusion of this company with Jones Lang LaSalle, in 1998, he was in charge of the Retail Division for Spain and Portugal working with 100 professionals for 3 years.

In 2001 he decided “to create LaSBA as a Retail Consultancy, specialised in Shopping Centres where I could use and develop all the experience taken over my more than 30 years and offer to my clients an accessible and close service”.

For the fourth successive year, he is the Chairman of the ICSC European Awards Jury (International Council of Shopping Centers) and since 2003 has also been a member of the International Awards Jury, in New York, the first European to occupy this post. He has been a member of the European Board of the ICSC for more than 10 years, and has been the driver and the Vice President of the European Conference of Shopping Centres celebrated in Madrid in 1999 with more than 1500 attendees, which beat the record for attendance at these conferences.

He has been Chairman of the Spanish Shopping Centre Council (AECC), was one of the founders and is currently Honoured Member. He organised and was Chairman of the First Spanish Congress of Shopping Centres, which took place in Madrid in 1988, with up to 200 attendees. And in 1996 he presided over the Spanish Jury Awards.

He is a member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI), and has actively participated in many other organisation associated activities relating to his profession. He was member of the Experts Group of the European Commission G29 in Brussels joining its meetings and debates.

He regularly takes part as a speaker in various Congresses and Conferences both in Spain and internationally and in recent years he has been a postgraduate course professor at Icade, EOI, Instituto de Empresa, and the ERPS (European Retail Property School) in Lausanne.

He is currently a consultant for the National Council of Civil Engineers, and a member of the editorial committee of the magazine Cauce 2000.
